Ordering Flip Pac, need help

As a new member of this forum I would like to thank everyone for all of your contributions in making this forum so informative. I have learned a tremendous amount from all of you, THANKS!

I am ordering a new flip pac and I have a few questions. First of all, what are the advantages/disadvantages to having side windows vs no side windows? I realize no windows would increase the durability of the pac, and add security to the unit. Windows would be good for ventilation if you have pets. I plan to use my flip pac on my Ford F-150 4x4 for hunting, camping, and surf trips. Secondly, FRP offers a few different front window options (slider, no slider, and possibly one more that folds inward??). What are your experiences with these windows? Cleaning, using it as a pass thru, weather profing, etc. Thanks for your help!

I'm sure you are aware of adventuretrailers.com, those guys probably know more about the flippacs then frp who makes them! From my limited experience with AT, their customer service is top notch! Give em a call!

As a side note, I'm looking to get an AT flippac with no side windows for strength and added security. my current bed cover has a front window that fold down into the bed for easy cleaning, if they offer that, it helps. Or you might be able to ask for some custom windows, id be interested in something a little more low profile like an elongated port hole type for more sunlight when I want. Just some ideas!

If you are using the side windows currently (like in a truck topper) or are used to having nothing in the way, you will find that having no windows make a big blind spot. Not a biggie if you are used to driving with mirrors, but if you are a shoulder checker you will feel blind.

Think about having a window on the passenger side and leaving the other side solid. That way you can build out the solid side with storage, kitchen, water tank, shower, etc.

Not trying to hi-jack the thread!

The window for visibility is a good point! I'm used to ambulances and fire engines, so that is nothing! What would be cool is some utility-truck type storage with door access on the side of the shell as well as from the inside...

Thanks for all the ideas! My dad suggested a window on the passenger side and solid on the driver's side. That might be a good way to go.

lpmitch,

You could make that passenger side window on your Flippac a "windoor with a slider" ? Probably not as strong as solid sides, but it would allow some pet ventilation as well as being utilitarian.

That's what I'd like to do once I have the funds to order an ATFP myself.

Here's what I'm thinkin'. These RV compartment doors come in a lot of sizes, and I saw one with the water tank fill nozzle behind it.

Drop down window

Anyone have the drop down window between the truck and camper on your flip pac? Seems like that would be nice but I don't know if its worth the $245. What do you think?

Anyhow, I have decided to go with no windows on the driver's side and a 14"x60" window on the passenger side. I do have the option to go with a smaller window (14"x52") but I don't see any advantage to this. Thanks again for your input.

On truck caps, a tilt in front window is very handy if only to clean the glass without having to lift the camper off the truck.:coffee:
On regular caps it is about a $200 to $300 option so the price seems ok.

A fold down window is one of the things I really wish I had sprung for on my ARE shell. Cleaning the two pieces of glass is a PITA otherwise.
