Hey guys

I'm Neil and I'm actually from Europe but I'm in Santa Barbara right now. I'm going for a Backcountry roads/camping trip very soon but I still need to buy plenty of camping/outdoor gear. All I know is Big5 Sports in SB.

Whre do I find a good store in the area of Santa Barbara or Los Angeles? I was thinking about some camping/outdoor outlet stores or just a "cheap" store. And are there any army/military stores where i can find some robust outdoor/storage stuff?

Thank you very much for your help!

Best, Neil

Guns, military gear, airsoft, paintball, but also good outerwear, boots, and probably some camping basics. They could also probably point you in the direction of a more "camping" specific store.

Also, nothing wrong with the camping sections of most Walmart stores. There's one in Ventura right along the 101 freeway, off of Rose or Johnson drive. We have a privvy shelter from walmart. It's very nice. Also, their camp supply stuff is the same pretty much as lower end/basic REI stuff.

A16 or REI will have everything you need. Sports Chalet will have less expensive versions of the same sorts of stuff. Walmart will have even cheaper versions of the same sorts of stuff, but generally falls into the "one time use" category of quality.

Lol, I saw this response in my email que and laughed outloud. That prompted my wife to inquire, which in turn led to a lengthy discussion of glamping. I'm pretty sure my wife is further convinced that I spend entirely too much time on the Internet. :)

SB has be become too posh for surplus stores these days. ;)
Check out Craigslist as well. A lot of people tend to buy gear and maybe use it once, then sell it.

I live in Santa Barbara as well. REI in SB, Sports Authority in Goleta or multiple on-line stores (Sierra Trading Post, REIoutlet, Cabelas, Backcountry etc).

If you want posh, stop by the patagonia headquarters in Ventura :)
Just down the street is Real Cheap Sports, good place to find patagucci at a discount.

There's a place called Santa Barbara Outfitters that carries good quality camping gear, but don't go looking for a bargain there.

REI just opened in Oxnard.

Santa Barbara Outfitters closed, but there is a place called, Mountain Air Sport on lower State Street that has great equipment & knowledgable staff, but tends to be pricey.
