Overboard Dinoot Build

A few years ago I started building a Dinoot trailer; I got a little carried away. I thought I would post it up and start using this forum as I am slowly doing more overlanding rather than rack crawling these days. IG: @rabbiter if you want to see more.
I might post pictures of the battery system and water system if anyone is interested. If anyone has questions I have tons of pictures I can post up!

I have not had the tires rub anywhere, but I am running some small bump stops so the axle does not hit the frame

Here are some build pics. This was stage 1, the goal was to have a trailer with a tent on it. I built it so there was room to expand as the build continued

I had the jk rims laying around. You can use a router to open the wheel up to pass a trailer hub.

If anyone is looking for a compact spare to run on there 5 on 5 trailer hubs, you can get them from a newer grand Cherokee. They are about the same size as a stock Jk tire and tuck up where a full size would be way too big. I was a little worried about blowing a hub at some point, so I mounted the tire on a hub attached to the spindle

I bet a lot would like more information .on what you did on the wheels with just a router . What bit did it take ? Any jig .

No Jig is needed.
Step 1. Get 1/2in flat trim router bit such as Bosch: 85266M
Step 2. Place router on the wheel on the lug nut side. Set the depth so the bearing on the bit will roll on the hub centric portion of the rim. (The bearing will not touch this portion until the metal is cut away)
Step 3. With the router in the center of the hole, firmly grasp the router and turn it on. Begin going in a circular motion around the inside of the wheel. Be careful because the bit will want to grab the metal more than wood making it easier to lose control.
Step 4. Keep going in a circular motion until the bearing rolls smoothly around the hub centric section of the wheel. When this happens no more metal will be cut as you go in circles.
Step 5. Get a beer and the shop vac.

Roll bar or round roof rack, awning mounts using shaft


collars found at industrial hardware stores.

Cheap, clean lighting.
Find aluminum channel the height of your roof top tent cross bars and narrower than your led strip. Roll it in because it will be a press fit that way you do not need to rely on the cheap adhesive tape.
To get the channel to not slide, out preload the aluminum channel with a small washer or penny. This will be placed between the bottom of your tent and the lights. I have not had the lights move in 20k+ miles of on and off road

Nice build Mike! You have some great ideas on your trailer, I like the idea of using a spare hub to mount your spare tire.

On the subject of enlarging the center hole in your wheels, I’m sure you knew and did this, but some might not.

When enlarging a hole like this it would be best to move the router in a CW direction.
Moving the bit CCW would result in a “climb cut” that would be even more difficult to control.
