Hi All,

Im heading from Tacoma, WA to MOAB this March. Ill have a week to spend and im looking for trip ideas and insight into the area. We have our white rim road permits for two days and i cant decide what to append to the trip as there are so many sights to see. Not really a bad problem to have right..lol

Also we will be heading down through eastern Oregon and Idaho. If anyone has recommendations on accommodations it would be greatly appreciated.

I've done similar trips from Gig Harbor the past two years, and I'm going again a few weeks after you (to spend a week in The Maze this time). Taking kids? How old are they?

My thoughts (based on my experiences):

I would look into adding another day to White Rim possibly- We did two nights, and wish we had another day.

A few places to look into going:
Salt Flats on the way down- Only if you want to spend an hour washing salt off your Jeep at the nearest car wash.
Explore Maze area- Even just a night at Panorama Point would be a great addition to your trip
Toroweap- a little out of the way, but the coolest place I've been in a long time.
Grand Staircase- Alstrom Point was a fun night to spend (but a little far away)

I did a short trip report for our '14 trip. That may help give you some ideas. http://www.expeditionportal.com/forum/threads/127797-Utariho-14-(Utah-Arizona-Idaho)

I didn't do a trip report for our '15 trip which was more near the Moab area. Of that, Panorama Point was my favorite. We didn't do any of the trails that are known for Moab, as we are more interested in destinations than we are in just driving over big rocks for the fun of it.

Hope that helps a little, on the way down and back we just found roads in the middle of nowhere to camp. That worked great for us.

The '14 trip looked super cool. I hear great things about that lexus like how it can use 4runner lift kits. We are picking up our RTT from CVT next month, how do you like yours?

The wife and my two kids will be along for this trip (4 year old and 7 months). We will be gone for 10-12 days and plan on a rotation of camping for 3 days then hotel for a night.

When I found the GX, I was looking for a 4Runner, but I found this GX and it was essentially the same price, but had leather and a bunch of other stuff. It is on the same platform as the 4Runner, so same engine, same transmission, and the suspension and lots of other stuff fit between the two.

The CVT tent is great. Would recommend it, it works great for our use and fits great on the trailer.

Your kids will love the trip! We had our daughter out at 6 months and she did fine. Just tried to eat everything.

Thanks for the great ideas and advice. Amazing pictures WhiteH2O.

The family and I set out on our adventure Thursday night and we entered Utah yesterday. Kids have been doing great though we keep the drive to about 6hrs a day.
