Expedition comments: Etienne is a PhD. Biochemist. He did his undergrad & masters work in France and completed his PhD. in Mexico. His dissertation was on the enzymes used to produce tequila. Once he completed his three year obligation there he signed up to work for the next two years on Chagas disease in Bolivia.

Vehicle comments: Bought in 2005 in Mexico. Originally a California vehicle. Titled in Mexico in 2001. Rebuilt engine & tranny, fixed body and new paint. Originally cream color. $12,000 USD total investment. Interior is stock and un-restored.

Shipping comments: Shipped Colon, Panama to Guayaquil, Ecuador. 3 days for customs processing in Guayaquil.
Insurance Company/Companies: Plan to buy in Bolivia.
Insurance comments: Bought a policy allegedly good for all of Central America but it was refused at the first border crossing.
Comments: Interior was incredibly clean. Amazing all around vehicle for 1975 VW.
Biggest lesson(s) to date: Don’t believe everything someone tells you. They met an oil company salesman along the way who told them it was OK to put 15-40W motor oil in their transmission. It is now making unusual noises.
