Vehicle expedition maintenance/repairs: adjusted diesel injection system for altitude in Puno, Peru
Vehicle comments: Bought in 2007, did one test trip for two weeks to Tuscany, Italy. Purchased vehicle for $9,000 USD. Invested ~$3,750 USD in parts and service in the engine/chassis to prepare for the trip. Marginally powered for steep grades.

Shipping comments: No problems with shipping. The family flew over rather than travel with the truck. Shipped Hamburg, Germany to Buenos Aires, Argentina.
Insurance Company/Companies: SA liability via a company in Argentina.
Insurance comments: Found the broker via web links on overlanders’ sites.
Comments: René is a long time motorcycle rider. When Sonja was pregnant with their first child he sold his bike and bought their first camper. They feel they will always be able to go back and find work but may never have the chance to have these experiences again. They are limited to two years for their expedition due to their immigration status in Switzerland.
Biggest lesson(s) to date: Full time overlanding is more work and stress than they expected. “It is not a holiday (vacation).” The rewards of the experience are worth the work.
