Oztent Owners Forum

I can’t find one but wish I could. I recently sold my JV Signature in new condition after never using it. I bought an Oztent 1 with panels and fly which better suit for my situation. I have lots of questions which could probably be answered by Oztent owners if I could find them as a group. My hope is enough people who actually do own Oztent will respond to this post that we can set up a running dialogue, and maybe grow up to be a sticky.

For example, the front and side panels zip together and have web loops at the bottom of the corners. I assume they have something to do with holding the poles in place; but how, actually, do they work? The loops are ~6” long and too big for the pole’s foot. Are they supposed to be twisted, or something and staked down?

Even if you don’t know the answer, if you own an Oztent, please let your presence be known!

I also have a JV, unused, and an RV-1, since it's usually just me. I have the side panels, but have never used them, and will get the front panel before summer's end. I love the size of the canopy/awning, and really don't see setting up the rest too often. But, I generally buy everything while it's available...

I did buy an extra set of poles and a ridge pole for the front edge; it makes the awning slightly bigger in covered square footage, and a nice way to hang a lantern from the front edge of the tent. Can't help ya too much; sorry!

I have the sides, front and fly. Have used the sides to add a bit more room to the 'spacious' RV3. The loops you speak of are for (well, what I use them for) tent stakes to keep them in place in the breeze, although the velcro tabs do a great job of securing the sides to the poles. Once the front is in place they don't need to be so secured but I do it anyway. I make my own additional tent stakes from large 12inch spikes with a washer welded near the top. Thinking of getting some Snow Peak tent stakes, saw some my friend has and they are very sturdy.
So after getting all the extra pieces, I set it up in my yard to familiarize myself with set up and time to set up. Have not used the fly yet but since it has a silvered side as we'll as the matching green, and I do camp in sunny locations, the intent is to keep the heat gain (I hope) to some degree down a bit. The tent does shed water well so the fly is for heat gain, mostly. I did make an extra short pole to hold open the rear zippered panel (placed in the center) to allow for venting even in moist conditions.
I use a rug from a thrift store in the annex to allow for less tracking in of forest debris and sand.
I find the tent to be a very comfortable residence away from home and we intend to use it (and all its pieces) on our trip to the redwoods this year.

There's a group on Facebook. Mostly UK I think. It's called the OzTent Equipment owners group. Nick Burt is an Admin.
