I came to respect those Peugot pickups. (404 then) when I was in Mali in the late 80s. They were hauling obscene loads over potholed roads which were often more pothole than road. By the looks of the taxis in Bamako it seemed that they could be rebuilt with a pocket knife. The Nissan Bluebird and Toyota Hilux were just beginning to make a name for themselves then and Peugot and Citroen still made up the majority of the vehicles on the road. I was always impressed with how far a 2wd Peugot could get without getting stuck. A 4wd version would have been legendary.
