Picked this up today, need suggestions for 1x9 set up.

My wife bought a Krampus frameset for me and it came in today. I want to set it up as a 1x9 and would love some recommendations that have worked for you. I'm going to build up the wheels with Chris King hubs and I need drivetrain input. Thanks in advance.

My apologies I am attempting to post this and answer twenty questions from the kids at the same time.

Cool bike! Because this isn't a true fat bike, they use pretty normal spacing for hubs and bottom brackets, but they do require you select your cranks carefully for tire clearance. I think the Surly MWOD cranks in a 1x configuration are nice enough. I think for a 1x crank your options are pretty wide open, though. I'm a big fan of White Industry stuff, even though it's anything but cutting edge technology.

One recomendation I would make right off is a Paul Components chain guide. They're really awesome. I recently installed the BB mount version on a Pugsly and it was really slick to install. Highly adjustable.

This is another bike that I've just got to try. Maybe good ol' square taper cranks (like WI) will be best, as you can adjust chainline with BB spindle length.

Speaking of, I'm getting tired of switching out Shimano outboard BB's every year. It ticks me off every time I hear that crunching/squealing sound. My old ST BB's never did that. Maybe it's time to switch back.

Chris King or Raceface.
I've had good luck with a Raceface DH/FR BB on my Chameleon. 4 years of hucking, riding, racing in the mud/rain/dust with no issues.
I run repacked XT bearings on my SS.

I've had really good success repacking the shimano bearings with better grease.

SO far it's Chris King hubs and headset, e.thirteen single speed cranks, Thomson seat post with a WTB seat, Sram X9 for shifting, probably a Thomson X4 stem and undecided on bars.

Sloan, I have at least five sets of CK hubs on various bikes and I'm a huge fan. However, for the ExPo project Fargo I worked with White Industries. Not only are they huge fans of Overland Journal and our demographic here at ExPo, their hubs are just stunning. They're a touch heavier than CK, but I still love looking down at those soft curves of the front hub. And they truly do roll smother than my Kings if that's possible.

I built my Fargo in as much polished or raw aluminum as I could to give it a fun retro-modern look. Turned out great. Plus, my red King hubs have faded to pink and my black to brown.

There was a set of White Industry hubs sitting on the shelf next to the CK hubs that I picked and I agonized over the decision. Thanks for the doubt! :D Maybe I'll revisit tomorrow if the wheels didn't get built today.

It's a tough one, Sloan. As for the Whites, I really like that it's a tiny company. When I call, I always get the same people on the phone. They're very sincere and helpful. They want every customer to enjoy receiving their products and using them. Just super nice people. And again, that front hub alone is a dream to behold under your nose as you ride along. Pretty stoked to see that level of boutique product made here, right in your own state of Cali.

The owner up at Topanga Creek Cycles uses their hubs and cranks, I didn't know much about White Industry and have been obsessing over Chris King hubs for years. I'll check them out tomorrow, kind of leaning towards going with a 10 speed rear. Thanks for your input.

So I ended up going Chris King, I did however stand there for a loooong time holding both rear hubs.
