Anyone been through this one before? 2002 Tacoma 3.4l auto transmission. PO770 is shift solenoid E malfunction, which apparently controls the torque converter lockup. Drove fine all the way to work today, both at highway speeds and stop-go city driving.
The most pessimistic results I got from the Google search says usually the solenoid itself is not the problem, but the problem is more likely due to metal particles in the fluid from failing parts clogging the solenoid (!!!) and the entire transmission needs to be replaced. The truck was in the shop in July for a transmission flush.
The most optimistic results from TTORA was that they drove for months with the code and never had a problem.
God bless the Internet and her bipolar tendencies.
