A friend of mine and his brother are mutually developing a site called www.poitools.com. The site is in its infancy, but is up. They expect to have a polished front end in a few more weeks. The concept is initially tailored more toward urban waypoints, such as all the free wi-fi spots in a given location, etc. Eventually they want to add geo-caches and other points of interest to broaden the site's appeal. I told him about many of the ExPo user's preference to keep private their neat waypoints, to assure less traffic because of the kooks out there that trash or remove archeological features, not keeping with the spirit of Leave No Trace and Tread Lightly.
He says they are proud of the fact that they already have over 1.5 million waypoints, which makes them the largest of the similar sites out there. Other similar sites, he says, offer less opportunties to fine-tune your searches. Their's allows the user to narrow the focus by category or location.
I asked him if he wanted me to let ExPo know about it and he said sure. Don't expect this to be a fully professional thing yet, as the software is still in development. They are not sure how they will profit from it yet, whether by advertising or by subscription.
Enjoy...
By the way, if you guys come up with some suggestions, I'll forward them to him.
