Polar Wire Products

Passing along a link to Polar Wire for those of you who aren’t familiar with their products. https://www.polarwire.com/
I’ve used their products for marine and extreme cold weather applications and plan to use more of the stuff in a future camper build. The Blue Sea products they carry are already well known.

I'm sure that wire is good but IMO, way overpriced for what you get. I'm a fan of the TEMCo wire. https://temcoindustrial.com It has comparable specs and less than half the price. Also TEMCo has been around twice as long as Polar Wire.

I'm not meaning to be offensive. Just pointing out there are better choices for us guys that are on a budget that are looking for quality at a good bargain. When doing builds wire is one of the biggest expenses.

Also the Blue Sea products are way out of line in cost. 300.00 for a 7622 relay is not right. Anywhere else those are under 200.00.

I have used Polar wire in applications that require flexibility at very low temperatures (in Antarctica). In that application it is absolutely the right stuff to use, so if you have an application that will experience super cold temperatures (< -20C or so) AND you will be bending the wire/cable, then it is a good choice.

However, for general camper wiring, it is not a great choice. First it is very expensive compared to quality marine or automotive wiring that will work just as well in this application. Secondly, the insulation is very thick for the wire gauge. This means it is bulky to install in cramped camper wiring spaces and it doesn't work well with a lot of crimp on connectors that provide strain relief on the insulation.

The rest of your vehicle is likely to be wired with TXL/GXL/SXL automotive wire, so just wiring the camper part with polar wire is a bit of a waste.

Agreed there, most items for general usage using any of the crosslinked wire from waytek or del-city will suffice unless on the water. And name brand components from then will also work, no need for any of the Blue Sea unless one needs AYBC on a larger yacht, even most of the marine pleasure craft is electrical is not what it use to be, in some ways it almost looks like the same people that are popping out the rv / camper are hired.

But after some experience working in Northern Canada it does make a difference on what is being used after - 40 the normal things in the lower states just won't function or last. And lower than - 60 just does makes a mess out of plastics and rubbers.
