I am in the process of building my RRC ready for it adventure south and I want to add a pop up sleeper. I am thinkg the VW van pop up that you sleep in but in a dormobile style swing. Basicly I want to do is use the factory roof and add the swing on top. Add a rear ladder to get into it. It needs to sleep me, my wife, and child, which I am thinking it will do, we are pretty small. :D I will reenforce the floor and run wiring up for a light. I am adding a short rack in front of it so I am hoping it will keep it protected. The rooftop tents just stick out to much. So my question is has anyone ever done this or is there a company that already makes something like this?

Thanks,
Leo

All the Dormobile roof does is make it taller so you can stand inside the Series while camping. I want a pop up that I can sleep in, the truck is full of gear. No one has ever don anything like this on another car?

Leo have you looked at the largest Maggiolina? If so what did you like and what didn't you like about it?

Also how would you compare what you have in mind to what the AT FlipPack does.

Do you want the interior storage and the sleeping areas separated or joined?

I have looked at that camper before but I need low profile, cant be higher than the roof rack. San Salvador is a ***** to get around if your rig is tall, as most major South/Central American cities. And the prices of them arent economical so I am going to do this myself and publish the design on here for other folks. I think it will cross over to the 80 and 100 series nicely. Not the Disco though. I will get a boat canvas shop to stich it together for me.

I love the camper pop out buit I am not a pick up.

And I want my sleeping area seperate from the cab of my truck. My truck is the mechanical truck, I have all the tools and chemicals in it. Plus its wired already for my communications equipment so I can add the tent to my truck and have power it it. I will add solar panels to it. My wifes Discovery is the kid and other gear hauler. I dont have a back seat anymore so I can carry a ton of stuff, plus I have the heavy duty suspension.

You sure....?

The pics I saw makes it look like there are two bunks into the roof space.

Never seen that, your right then I could use a Dormobile top. I will contact them, but the problem is shipping will be more than the product.
