Popup roof vent replacement

Hello I didn't see a forum for repairs or maintenance hope this is ok here ? The wife and I tore into some repairs on our new to us Skamper truck camper and found a issue. When the previous owner changed the roof vent they tore the aluminum roof material . The piece missing extends out further than the flange area covers .
Is there a right way I should repair this ? We plan to install a Fan tastic vent unit and the flange is plastic so I may need to put a spacer in the missing area so the flange won't break.
Here's a picture of the area its only on the front of the opening.
Thanks Ed

No picture, but assuming it is the top of the roof, not the ceiling. You will need to cut a larger square piece of metal/aluminum to cover the area missing material then cut a 14 inch square for the opening. Be generous with your waterproofing with silicone or other goop you choose to use.
I had to do something similar on my ceiling at the vent where the water damage showed. For the inside repair I was able to use 1/4 plywood, not metal, and this actually looks nice and also by making it a little longer I had a nice place to mount a light and hide the wires.
