Possible base vehicle for expedition rig

i was perusing possibilities of base vehicles to build an expedition type rig and came across this, peaked my interest, what do you think?

Why bother with the up fitted fire truck and simply start with the International 4800 4x4 platform? They are fairly common. Others with similar thoughts. http://www.turbodieselregister.com/threads/12504-International-4800-4x4-as-motorhome

That was my thought, not necessarily to buy one of these Bulldogs but to do something similar with the base model truck. After reading that thread you linked (thank you for the link) it sounds like the 4800 may not be a good option.

You might want to go with the 7400 series - higher GVW and stronger axles.

There was someone in Casper selling some used flatbed or chassis/cab 7400s a couple months ago.

I love my 7400 chassis. And mine has the DT570 motor, rather than the 466. In the new models, that the MaxForce 9 vs. 7, I believe. Great truck.

Looks like Bulldog is using the same Hutchinson wheels and military XZLs. The boys at Buckstop Truckware have a template for the bumper and do great work.
