Possible SW alternate trip plan for October. Can you guys help?

As some of you may have read, I have an October 12 - 29 trip planned down Baja way.
I have taken pause due to the reports of very bad hurricane John damage to many of the back roads and the possibility of bad insects that appear after heavy rains. As this will mainly be a camping trip, I do not want to sit in hoards of blood suckers every night.
Anyway, I am looking for a good alternate trip, depending on what happens in the next couple of weeks down there.
My real desires are sunshine and water.
Therefore, southwest is probably key.
I want very much to be off pavement and have a river, lake or creek to swim in at every camp.
Does anyone have a good idea for that time period?
I know people do not like to cough up their secret spots but I have spent a lot of time getting ready for this trip and I do not want it to be a waste.
I have a very capable 80 series landcruiser setup for expedition and self support.
Any and all ideas are greatly appreciated.

The problem with the southwest is finding that many rivers and lakes that are not completely over run with people. Many of the rivers out here do not flow year round, and when they do it is often due to heavy rain, which equates to fast moving water (swimming = bad idea). This makes the few quality lakes and rivers extremely popular.

Are you looking to find a new camp every night? Or are you looking to set up for a few days at a time?

I will definitely be at least a few days per camp, especially if it is nice. I have 18 days to mess with so it will be a lot of relaxation and hiking.

Kayaking the Black Canyon below Hoover Dam would be good that time of year. LOTS of hot springs.

SW Missouri has just what you're looking for, but it might be a bit cold for swimming in mid-late October!

Sierra Madres??? Maybe BajaTaco will chime in on that area of Mexico, or you can contact him. The pic's I've seen of the trip down there are pretty awesome.

www.guadalupe-canyon.com is a very cool place to veg out for a few days.

the hike to the waterfalls is awesome too! very much worth it!

if you make it i HIGHLY suggest their "san marcos" camp

El Golfo de Santa Clara, you can camp for days with out seeing people, Salt Flats and more! you can continue on south of Sonora and do the Nautica area before it becomes a tourist attraction, Punta Chueca would be a great area to explore all this by the Sea of Cortez, some pavement but overall is just trails, you would have a lot of fun, plus you would see the largest island in Mexico; Isla Tiburon.

Yes it should be great, lot's of areas to explore around Tiburon Island.

I am intrigued. Can you tell me of places to replenish supplies and fuel down there? Looks pretty remotes. I have a fridge on board so I can last a while.

Well assuming you start in San Luis Rio Colorado, then down south to El golfo, you could refuel at El Golfo, then in Puerto Penasco, El Desemboque, Bahia Kino and then in San Carlos Bay. You would need around 10 to 15 Gallons of fuel between El Desemboque and Bahia Kino.You may buy some fuel at Punta Checa or Puerto Libertad if needed.
