At camp...
... and ready to roll.
I know its not what you asked for but after trying a few "sleeper" ideas, it was what I ended up with.
I, unlike many of my Jeep brethren am not going out to crawl the rocks. Instead, I only crawl as much as needed to gain access to the places far away from the crowds. As you know, in California thats not so easy. Anyway, we are just as likely to leave the rig at a hiking trail head for days while we explore on foot and this setup is working out really nice.

I haven't ruled out the trailer just yet. I learned even w/my Westfalia that I like to leave home/campsite and explore w/o breaking down everything.
I just like to be able to go where I want w/o dragging a trailer. Sand doesnt like it very much or marsh.....
