Power locks (dumb) questions

OK, so I have power locks on my new XJ, but not keyless entry. I thought I was locking up the car when I hit the lock button on the driver's side but I found out that the driver's side does not lock when I do that. I have to lock it with a key. Every other door does lock. Normal or not normal?

I am thinking of adding keyless entry to the Jeep. Any recommendations?

missing remotes?

I don't know...I was not told that it might have had remotes. How can I tell if it is supposed to? I only got it with two keys and they are copy keys, not the originals.

Well idk how you can tell. When I got mine I took it to the stealership and bought a remote and had them program it(you can't program it yourself with my perticular model).

I wouldnt waste your time or money on the factory remote system, even if you do have the option. I have two 96 sports, and both had that system. It sucks. It uses an infared signal (like a TV remote) instead of normal radio signal. You literally be standing right next to it. You will be much better off with an aftermarket unit. I installed one with remote start and lock unlock etc etc. Also, when I hit any lock button, ALL the doors lock on both of my XJ's. Even before my aftermarket install... You have an issue there.

I've got remote entry on mine but don't use it, I just don't like having that big key fob in my pocket. But when I hit the lock button all my doors lock. I do have a problem with one back door though, sometimes it locks and some times it doesn't. The little electrical actuator thing works because it makes a "vrrrrr" sound, so there evidently is some sort of linkage or something inside there that is busted or something. That might be something to check out on yours.

IF I'm not mistaken his XJ is a 97+. He should have the "modern" style remotes that work pretty decently.

hold open the drivers inside door handle and press the power lock button that should lock the drivers door with all the rest.. it's there as a safety so you don't lock your keys inside by bumping the button.. pretty common on all cars with power locks..

If thats the case... forget what I said and carry on. I could have sworn he said it was a 96, but it was early (pre-coffee) when I posted...

If you're talking about mine, it's a 1997, so I'll look into the door handle holding and read that link, thanks guys...oh, and it's a "Her's" Jeep. :p
