Pre rear bumper build up.

Well noticing the prices of rear bumpers for Land Rovers

I decided to have my friend build one.

What I have here is what I did over this past weekend. First off I removed the rear bumper and put it up. I trimmed my rear quarter panels up to the black trim. My chassis was a hot mess. So I sanded down the chassis "horns" plus the complete rear end of the chassis and cleaned it up way beyond what was needed. The I WD-40 the whole thing and then I applied a fresh coat of rustoleum primer to smooth it out. Next came a coat of Flat black Rustoluem paint to finish it off. The reason for this is because the Bumper will be a flat black color. and I wanted a clean look in the rear. plus if it gets dinged I can just spray it up. I have a before and after of everything that was removed.

The actual bumper pictures will be posted later this week so stay tuned my friends.

PS I painted my diffs forest green I guess one can say I keep my underparts clean:wings:
heres pictures

Just a FYI.

Flat paints tend to be porous. As such the will eventually have rust surface anywhere that you were down to bare metal. They are more of a "primer". You might want to go to a satin paint. It seals but still not a full on gloss.
If you just have to be "flat black" put down a base coat of a semigloss or a gloss to seal the metal before applying the flat.

I like the sheet metal chop, that looks cool.:chowtime: Never realized how much was back there until I saw your pics. Are you doing a tire carrier or just a bumper? Also WD40 is a decent degreaser but make sure you wipe everything down with paint thinner or alcohol before you spray for best results. I've used WD to remove sticker residue and the new paint has had issues. Get some bumper pics up soon:)

Didn't know that. I've been using flat black Rustoleum for the past couple of years just figuring it was OK. My new something learned today!
