Price: $33,500

Automatic transmission
Location: San Francisco, CA
Good Condition
Highlights include:
- Flip-Pac camper: lightweight camper shell (290lbs); fold out tent with a full size bed over the cab and standing room inside; cot; SLO rainfly; opening lever; spare Sway Away torsion bar; replacement mattress (not yet installed)
- Cabinets: Dometic CD30 drawer fridge; pull out galley with included Coleman stove (new) and sink; drawers for all galley essentials; extra space to fit miscellaneous camp gear or spare cooler
- Electrical system: 175W solar panel and 20 amp DC to DC charger powering a 100 amp hour Renogy battery; canopy and camper lights; 1000W Renogy inverter; outlet with USB chargers; 12V fuse box. I have a spare 100 amp battery (new) that would allow for a ton of extra power; I can throw in with a discount if interested.
- Misc: folding internal ski racks; reinforced wood framing for Flip-Pac fiberglass shell, allowing you to mount external items like an awning, recovery boards, etc. (not included); added aluminum reinforcement in base to allow installation on different bed rail systems.
We love this build - it's allowed us to take off road camping adventures across the Western US, including a 2 month trip with our newborn several years ago. The base Tacoma 4x4 is more than capable for most off-road and dirt roads we've come across, and the Flip-Pac is an ingenious camper that is minimalist but huge when popped open. The custom cabinets we designed and built allow you to leave all your gear packed in the truck, ready to go for a weekend or a month-long trip. We've camped solo, as a couple, and with our two kids - the cabinets can be used as a second bed, too, allowing for 3-4 people to sleep comfortably in the camper. With a portable propane heater and the rainfly on, we've camped in sub-freezing temperatures quite comfortably. The build quality is extremely high - all drawers are dovetailed and all cabinets are assembled with tongue and groove joints. We're only selling it because we got a new truck, which the Flip-Pac doesn't fit on. (Honestly, writing this ad is making me question the decision.)
A few notes:
- Truck: mechanically the truck is in excellent condition with low mileage for its age. My mechanic (Nathan at Nate's Green Garage in Berkeley, CA) recently described it as a "like new truck." New rear tires (<500 miles); front tires have a bunch of tread left. There are a few cosmetic issues resulting from the prior owner who used the vehicle as a work truck: small dent in driver side C pillar; a few scratches on the tail gate that have been touched up; the passenger side mirror internal case is cracked, although functionality is not impacted.
- Flip-Pac: If you've read about them, you'll know that Flip-Pacs haven't been made for close to 10 years. I believe this one dates from the early 2000s, but I'm not sure. We've used it extensively (probably close to 150 nights), and it still works great. The tent has one patch and two small holes (less than 1cm) that predate me and haven't changed at all in the 7 years I've owned it. One screen has a slight tear. Most important to note: the fiberglass of the mattress base has separated at driver side hinge. This is fixable (I can send my internet research upon request), but I haven't had a chance to do it. It doesn't impact usage of the camper at all, but I plan to seal with RV tape to prevent water ingress.
My preference is to sell the truck and camper together, but I'm very willing to sell separately (for example, I designed the cabinets to be removable and to fit a 5' bed if needed). Please don't hesitate to reach out with questions. I'm happy to schedule time to test drive the truck and see the Flip-pac and camper build.
