Project Offroad Kick Scooter

Hi guys,
first of all, i don`t have any idea which is the right forum for this thing, or if you wan`t to see this. Feel free to move or delete it... :coffee:

Most of the hiking trails in austria end with forest roads on the way back. I`ve always been tired of hiking downhill on forest roads, so there was this idea of build a light kick scooter like thing, that i can carry in the backpack and then ride down those forest roads...

Normal kick scooters have way to small tires, so this is no option. The ones with bigger tires are built out of steel and way too heavy...

So i decided to try and built my own. First i ordered some parts:

Rear finished:

It was really tricky to mount the brake disc on the wheel, because i don`t have a lathe or a mill. This is what i ended up with:

Almost finished:

It came out quite a bit heavy, but i can`t think of anything to make it lighter...

Let`s see with what i come up tomorrow...

why not put the brake on the back tire? i could see having to stop fast and being in alot of pain really fast.

I already ordered another disc brake that goes in the rear. For now I'm in the progress of putting a fender on the back tire that is able to fold down and put pressure on the tire to stop it...

That's cool. I would plate/gusset the corner joints on the rear fork. Those butt weld joints with that thin wall square tube are either going to break or tear apart in no time once you get your weight and the inevitable bouncing of off-road terrain on it.

First test run was successful... :wings:

Unfortunately no pics of me riding it, but here`s an after pic:

The scooter did really well, no problems found. Everything was strong, no wobble or anything. The gravel was really loose, so it was a bit hard with just the front brake, but i`m sure it`ll be freaking fast with the rear brake installed...

Steinez, we talked about this thing so many times in Canada. I am glad to see you finally put the thing into production. Although I am sure it fits your needs, by definition, a scooter has a motor!:Wow1: When is that thing going to get some power?:ylsmoke: Ok, only kidding, I know you have no plans to install a V-twin motor in that thing. On another subject, did those nice friends come with you on the Austria trip? You know the people I am talking about. Now pics of those friends could be interesting...:)

I like it! I'll admit that I enjoy riding either of my daughter's scooters just as much as they do. I just might have to do something like this. Thanks for sharing!
