Propane lantern issues

Our propane lantern has been giving us problems recently. After it runs for 10 minutes, the light diminishes by about half, and it starts making a loud fluttering noise. If we turn it off and let it cool off, it runs fine again for another 10 minutes.

We have tried new mantles and new propane cylinders, so I think the next step is surgery. Any tips?

It is a Century Primus 5400, which is a small one which fits in a 3"x3"x5" box. The company that makes it seems to have disappeared in multiple takeovers.

Thanks,

James

Is it starving itself for oxygen?

Make sure all of the vent holes are unobstrcted.

It's could be that, or maybe something getting to hot, and 'choking' the fuel.

I agree with the oxygen idea. When teh cylinder heats up, you tend to have to tun them down a bit. The buzzing sounds liek ignition issues, ie: too much gas. Did you try just adjusting it down a bit?

Thanks for the idea. It perhaps was starving itself of oxygen since we were at 9000 feet. We never had a problem with it at 7000 feet. I can't remember if we used it when we camped there last year. I will try turning it down next time. The vent holes are all clear.
