After a couple of years of fighting with the mounting hardware that came with my Tepui Kukenam RTT, I finally got around to completing a quick release mounting system for my tent and rack.
The photos below show the pieces that make up the system and the completed installation of the 2" x 2" x 1/4" extruded aluminum load bars, bolt on brackets for the tent mounting rails and the 1/2" hitch pins that lock the tent to the aluminum rails.
Mounting brackets made from 2"x1/4" aluminum angles with counter sunk holes for the 5/16" stainless steel flush machine screws/nylon nuts that fasten to the slide track tabs that came with the tent mounting hardware.
Mounting brackets staged on the aluminum load bars.
Mounting brackets installed on the tent mounting slide tracks.
Rear view with hitch pins installed.
Right rear hitch pin detail 1.
Right rear hitch pin detail 2.
Right front hitch pin detail 1.
Now on to figuring out a way to safely lift this 130lb tent onto the roof...without the luxury of having a garage with an overhead hoist/lift to lift this behemoth. Apartment living with a Jeep addiction is not a good combination.
Here's a roof rack mounted winch-hoist design that I've been playing with for the last while:
Gotta love Sketchup!
You'll see in the second photo of this post that the winch-hoist has been constructed (and test mounted) but needs to go through some testing/teething before its ready for primetime.
