R1T, that’s watts up. Our new beginning

There isn’t a lot of first hand EV content on this sub, thought I’d bring you all along through the whole process. We’ve been test driving and debating used and new and waiting for the ‘25 reveal, and decided on an inventory ‘24 large pack dual motor.

This will be our one vehicle, we sold everything else. The wife and I are empty nesters and commute together. At the moment the R1T is the one vehicle that does all the things for us.

Still need to work out exactly how camping will work out, there are a few options. Probably ground tent for a while. With previous vehicles I’ve learned it’s best to use what you have and learn what works best by doing.

Super stoked, no delivery date yet.

I'm sure you'll love it. My buddy has one and loves. He's had it off-road around southern Colorado and really enjoyed it. He has used it to tow his camper but range was problematic so he tent camps now. Less is better.

We did the trailer thing years ago with our 4Runner. There are some advantages, hook up and go, but increases the temptation to carry too much stuff. That and it was always in the way at home.

Tomorrow is the big day!

We ordered Sunday night, again this is an inventory model. We likely could have taken delivery yesterday but we missed some stuff in the app and honestly communication was not great with our local store.

If you are ordering with the app and going through the paperwork and documentation stuff it just wasn’t clear on mobile. It didn’t seem obvious until we went through the steps on our laptop, five minutes to upload docs sign some stuff and done. Ten minutes later we get a call saying we can pickup the truck tomorrow.

Our contact could have been more clear, we could have been more diligent, we thought we were doing what we were supposed to do. Anyway, we made it to the next step and did it all at home on our own schedule.

Did you get it?
We did! Picked it up Thursday morning. Took about an hour mostly the Rivian guy connecting our phones and walking us through setup and about five minutes of paperwork.

Truck is amazing, drove out to Napa Thursday afternoon. Hit some curvy roads and had dinner. Not sure something this big should be this fast, handles really well. three setting on the air suspension. Drove it to work Friday, got drywall dust all over it already. Need to find some seat covers.

I’ve been organizing stuff in it. All the recovery gear I had in the Ranger fits in the sub frunk. Of course I don’t need a compressor. I’ll need another soft shackle, the regular steel ones don’t fit great in the front tow hooks. And I need one for the receiver cause there isn’t anything else on the back.

I’ll post some pics of the storage areas and what fits. Other people might be curious what fits where.

Frunk, sub-frunk and gear tunnel. These Dometic cans fit great in the gear tunnel and so do the old Kelty Binto bags. We've had those for twenty years now, used them in our Forester. Looks like our Engle 35 will fit under the tonneau, more on that.

I'm looking forward to seeing what adventures you take it on! I have an early preorder and was waiting to see what changes came to the refreshed R1S. I will likely go for the refreshed dual motor max pack since I've seen some available in the shop, but need to make a move before the end of September when my pricing expires.

Double check that you can still get your preorder price discount with the gen 2 vehicle. I seem to recall reading that the discount had to be used prior to 30 Sept and was only valid for a gen 1 from the R1 Shop.

The gen 2 show as available in the shop when I'm logged in, and others have reported ordering (but not yet receiving) them. The end of September is the cutoff to take delivery. The main things that draw me to the gen 2 are the improved suspension on the R1S, reduced phantom drain and simplified electronics for reliability since I'm 250 miles from a service center. Since the large pack size is reduced to 109kwh (and not available yet), the max pack makes the most sense for the remote areas we go and for towing our trailer. I should try to book a test drive in a gen 2 in Denver when we go through later this summer. Does your truck have the 21" wheels?

21” wheels? Me? Yes, one of the reasons I decided to not wait for the 2025, no 21s. Honestly would have preferred a 20” road tire. Not a huge deal really, mostly the wait was the issue. Large pack dual motor were the only options I got.
