Rapidan WMA

Beth and I drove around on Monday looking for rocks for our yard project. By the end of the day we wound up at the Rapidan Wildlife Management Area near Shenendoah National Park. The pavement ended and wound up and around some mountain switchbacks. Followed along the river the road wound through a small section of Shenendoah and into Rapidan. By the look any inclement weather could quickly make the place very "interesting" in a hurry. Lots of dispersed campsites available. We plan a recon trip to find the prime campsites as we only had a couple of hours by the time we got there. But it is georgeous and only an hour and a half away from KG. An hour from Fredericksburg. Beauty!

Went back to Rapidan this past Monday, found lots of campsites down by the Rapidan. Some single sites and a few large enough for groups of 3-4 vehicles. Found some trails to explore, but the condition of the trails and the lack of equipment we packed made us a little leary of a lone exploration. If I can get the interest of a friend or two I think it could make for a fun weekend of camping and exploring. Well exploring in the sense that I've never been down these trails before...

Tht's up through Wolftown and Grave's Mill isn't it. I've always called that Grave's Mill, been up a couple times in my Range Rover for the day with my boys. Nice area, nice pics. When I was in the Boy Scouts years ago we would camp up there friday nights and hike across and out on the Conway/Middle river on Sat.

Near there, yeah. Outside of Criglersville on 649. Since it's so close we plan on doing a bit of camping/hiking and general exploration of the area.
