Rear Bumper

Any real requirements in the U.S. other than needing one? Is there a proper way to connect a homemade to the frame? Thanks

I have always bolted my custom bumpers to the frame using the OEM mounting points with either custom brackets, or OEM brackets that were adapted to the new bumper.

The rules for bumpers vary from state to state, but generally follow the ICC rules. Google "ICC bumper regulations" for details. They specify how far from the ground, how far underneath the vehicle, etc. The idea is to keep smaller vehicles from getting stuck underneath. Also check rear tail lights and reflective marker requirements in your location.

Thanks Bob. I guess that means any rear bumper rules are not enforced. I can't think of a high clearance type expedition vehicle that would meet a low bumper requirement.
In my state an RV plate exempts the vehicle from truck regulations. I could probably take out a few pedestrians and not get in trouble.

It also depends on the truck that you are considering, not all trucks are required to have rear bumpers at all. ICC stands for interstate commerce commision, is this a commercial truck that you are thinking about?
