Remote wildlife and trail/game cameras?

I'm wondering if anyone has tried using trail/game cameras. It seems they are getting better resolution than when I first encountered them, as well as better video rates. They have some marketed as "wildlife" cams, but they seem to be essentially the same thing. There's a birding version with a manual focus so you can put it on a bird feeder, although I'm not sure that it's much different otherwise. There are even ones marketed for time lapses for plants, but again most models incorporate time lapse features.

Obviously hunters and wildlife investigators are mostly just interested in documenting the presence of wildlife, but I'd also like to use it for relatively higher quality time lapses and shots of wildlife I'd have trouble getting close to.

Any recommendations?
