Resetting ECU after changing the oil?

For those of you with a 2012+ Fuso (mine is a 2015) there is a section about resetting the ECU after each oil change. Below is the procedure from the manual but it is not working for me. Anyone else have problems doing this or tips on what I might be doing wrong?

From the Manual:
"1.4 Resetting the engine control unit
1. Turn the starter switch to “ON”. Do not start the engine.
2. Depress the accelerator pedal to the floor and keep it there for at least 20 seconds.
3. While still keeping the accelerator pedal depressed to the floor, pump the brake pedal at least 6 times.
When the engine control unit is reset, the indicator (amber) appears on the display for about 10 seconds.
NOTE:
The engine control unit calculates the engine oil replacement time. The steps above are necessary in order to reset the data used for determining the engine oil replacement time."

Thanks,
Mike

It might be worth a trip to a dealership to have a talk with one of their mechanics. This sounds like something that they would be doing on a regular basis, so they might be the best people to ask.
Maybe you're just not holding your tongue right when doing the reset... ;)

The dealer mechs probably do it using their laptop through the diagnostic port.

That may be true, but...
A while back I added some keyless entry remotes to my ECU. The procedure to do this was similar to what has been described above and it could not be done any other way.

I'm pretty sure the full manual mentions to use the software or this procedure to reset the ECU. The quote above is from the regular owners manual and makes no mention software. I assume the dealer uses the software. My next step is to ask a dealer. Thought I would check in with the Fuso owners here first.

Edited to add:
Looked this up in the 2012 Service manual:

• When the engine oil has been replaced, reset the inspection/service memory of the multi-information system. (See Chapter 6 “Multi-information system” in the Owner’s Manual.)

Resetting the engine electronic control unit

<Resetting with Multi-Use Tester>
• Connect the Multi-Use Tester to the vehicle.
• Use the “Electronic control unit reset” button in the menu to reset
the engine oil parameter in the engine electronic control unit.

<Resetting without Multi-Use Tester>
• Turn the starter switch to the “ON” position. Do not start the engine.
• Fully press and hold the accelerator pedal for more than 20 seconds.
• With the accelerator held in that position, press the brake pedal 6 times.
• If the electronic control unit resetting is not performed, the engine electronic control unit will keep counting the melting amount in the engine oil even after the engine oil has been replaced, causing a diagnosis code to be generated and a warning lamp (red) to light up. (See Gr13E.)

I just gave this a try on my 2015 with no luck.

My results: The display was set to the fuel screen and after holding the accelerator for 20+ seconds and then 4 pumps of the brake pedal, the fuel icon turned to an orange sys icon. I continued to 6 pumps and the orange sys went back to the green fuel icon. I moved over to the maintenance screen and the engine oil section (still showing ---- ) and tried the sequence again, with no change, and this time no orange sys icon. All of my maintenance settings show -------, as they always have.

I'm planning on taking it in next week for its second oil change and I'll see what they have to say.

Thanks for trying that. A light is supposed to turn orange for 10 seconds. Maybe it did work for you. So when you say you were on the fuel screen you mean the one that displays the current fuel economy?

I believe I was always on the screen displaying the engine temp on my attempts.

Yes. The icon showed the gas pump and was displaying current fuel economy. It may have reset the ECU when it flashed orange, but I did not see any change to the maintenance settings.
