Retiring to Cooper AT3 on my M416

The original tires were dated 1965 and still held air but side walls were cracked and rode like hard solid rubber tires. So I brought low rolling resistance Cooper tubeless tires AT3 and mounted them on original army rims, mounted they do not stick out from the fenders and rode smooth on the freeway. See pics

I had those on my yukon a couple of years ago

really good all around tire, much better in snow than the TA KO's I currently run

I also have cooper at3 on my tow unit, thanks on my trailer.

Good tires. I have them on my JKU and expo trailer. They have given great service so far.

Those are the original rims I assume, so are the Coopers tubed. I talked with the local tire store that carries Cooper, and he said those rims needed to be tubed. Due to the rivets on the back side.
Cause I have the original tires also and want to change out.

If you have real M416 wheels then you don't have to run tubes with a tubeless tire. You would need tubes with reproduction 7.00-16's because they are not designed as a tubeless tire. I'm running the AT3 in 215/85r16 on my M416 and it performs great.

X2, I did use epoxy paint on the rims, before remounting tubeless tires. No problem. (NOTE:Original army rims have a number stamped on the lug nut flange.) the balance on these tires was dead on.

Thanks for the reply. Is there a way to to tell if they the ones I have are original. They look like the ones is this pic. I have looked over the "net" and can't seem to find anybody that deals them or more direct info. Any help would be appreciated.

Not a bad idea. So did you epoxy the inside of the rim, cause I want to powder coat the outside to match paint on trailer.

Did yours have the rivets?

Just trying to get this figured out. Really want to keep the original look.

Mine had the rivets on the inside, but now that I think about it, I powder coated the entire wheel before mounting the coopers. So sealing them or powder coating them may be necessary. My tire shop never said anything about the wheels though.
