Reusable Hand Warmers/Heat Packs

No mine but found them on Ebay and they work great. Instand hand warmer/heat pack (this guy has 3 different sizes). I got one of the small and medium ones and they work great. Just boil them and they can be used again. Best part is its free shipping on any # of them! Great for waking up on those cold nights in the tent.

Those work really well, but only hold 'usable' heat for a short period of time (+/- 130*F (55*C) instantly, then cooling over the course of +/- :30-:45min). There are a lot of different reusable hand warmers on the market using the same technology (supersaturated sodium acetate + a metal disc for catalyzing), and I've used many brands in my mountaineering days. My favorite packs are the EZ-Heat brand by Pristech (they seem to be more durable than most of the other brands that I've used), and I buy them here for less that $5.00 each.

On top of just being hand warmers, these heat packs are also a great addition to any first aid kit, and I always take a couple with me to throw in the foot of my sleeping bag for snow-camping or other really cold outings. I'd recommend these little gems to anyone who spends a bit of time in the cold.
