It is a 1981 DAF, imported to the Netherlands in 2004, and looking at the specs (yes, we can look up vehicle specs when we know the plates) is on the road for a couple of years.

It is indeed a nice rig, but as soon as they hit Dutch ground again they can get into serious problems.

-License plates should be yellow
-Dutch version of the MOT is almost 3 years overdue

Mister policeofficer doesn't like that very much.

But hey, when your at the other end of the ocean, who gives a MMMM :rally_guys:

yah, I'm not sure how many cops here in America even know what an MOT is, let alone whether or not it is up to date... Especially considering I just got back from driving 150mi in the porsche with tags that expired in 2005 and not one of the four cops I passed cared.

I especially like the Michellin guy sitting on top of their roaming home. Where can I get one of those?

I ran into this couple a few weeks ago near Lost Maples State Park where they were spending a few days getting a Bendix fixed, they are also coming to Overland Expo in April. I think they might be willing to sell the Michelin Man at that time. They've been on the road for something like 9 years if my memory serves me correctly...thru Africa, South America and many other places along the way.

Here's a pic of their rig and mine next to it...it's an impressive vehicle with tires at 1 meter 20 or approximately 47 inches tall - come to OJ Expo and see it in person!

Is the box a converted shipping container?

I neglected to ask about that piece of equipment - had a nice tour of the inside of the truck while the dogs played around a bit, we tested the CB channels (which worked) and talked about interesting routes in Northern California (Bay Area and north) where I used to live...they wanted to explore that before coming to Prescott again.

Graham - she mentioned the nice time they had in Prescott visiting with you and Scott.

cheers,
Paul

I'm not positive, but I believe they passed me going the other way (headed south) here in East Texas last week. Them or another similar looking rig. VERY cool.

It looks like it started life as a military container, not a normal shipping container.OD color, 'factory' side openings, tie down points top and bottom for stacking, built like a brick house.
