Road damage.

Do any of you guys with cargo vans attract a lot of road damage? I washed my van today and noticed tons of dings and plinks.

I'm going to need a ton of touch up paint.:Wow1:

Always remember, the more painted surface you have, the more likely damage will occur. All part of the game. :D

On a serious note, it will depend a lot on your style of driving/parking. If you follow big rigs or large delivery trucks (or even drive beside them for any period) you are more likely to get stones kicked up at ya. If you drive a lot of back roads versus Interstates, back roads tend to have more loose gravel that can get kicked up even by vehicles driving the other way. In parking lots, do you park in the far reaches of the lot or up closer? The closer to the entrance, the more likely of door dings and bumper scrapes.

Also, some vehicle aerodynamics will tend to "pull" flying debris into it versus away.

Good point! I have some dings on Marshmallow that are seriously borderline gouges. I have to wonder how I attracted that kind of ire from the road gods.:snorkel:

Depending on where the damage is situated, you can determine/guess the cause. My 2003 has no dings on the side, but I almost never park at shopping malls - If I do, I try to park defensively ... Most road rash is on leading edges: hood, bottom of doors & rockers, and any part of the vehicle body that sticks out...

You can purchase some tapes to protect these areas, or paint them over with rocker guard/ truck bed coating etc ...

Longer mud flaps help reduce flying rocks and debris - keeping a greater distace when foolowing on dirt roads will help ...

Seems we can't drive out West without suffering damage. Doesn't matter what we drive, paint and windshield will come home with damage. Luckily, it's just been chips in both so far.

Grumpy will be getting bed liner applied to the bumpers and lower panels, hopefully sometime this year.
