rock lights / approach lighting on JKU

not a necessary mod by any stretch, but rock-lights are something i enjoy having.

i decided to forgo the kits and DIY using commonly available "COB LED DRL strips". the light came out very nice and evenly spread. the cost was similar to some of the mid-level kits, but with the wiring done to my own satisfaction! so far so good on initial durability after some rain, mud and car washes.

somewhere in my web searching during the planning phase, i saw puddle lights on a truck that acted as approach lighting. a quick wiring update and now these do the same thing (video below). yes it's a bit glampy, but rock-lights are a "just-because" thing anyway!

this feature can be temporarily defeated by disabling the interior lights with the stalk on the steering wheel. i also made it easy to completely kill if i get tired of it by unhooking a single terminal connector. the manual rock-light switch i have still takes precedence and will turn them on even if the approach feature is disabled.
