Hey guys/gals,

Looking to PM the owner or past owner of the Outback Proven Tacoma pictured below. I have a technical question for them regarding the installation of the rhino rack pioneer roof rack. I really like this setup but can't find much info on it. Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks!

Before I purchased my rhino rack I contact one of the sales guys and he was very helpful. If you can't find the owner of the truck I would hit up the company and ses if they can help. If you don't get a response shoot me a PM and I'll send you the email address of the guy I talked to.

The Rhino Rack on the Outback Proven Tacoma was a generic kit from them since they didn't have s Tacoma Specific kit to fit the Pioneer racks. It's actually riveted into the roof to be able to carry the weight.

The truck is now in Los Angeles. We were going to ship it to OZ and convert it to a RHD, but don't know what the status is since it's not going.

Thanks for the updated info! Are you near the truck to provide pictures of how the legs/feet are mounted?

I'm friends with the original owner. I'll see if I can get him to respond on here! Hope that helps!

Actually I'm half way around the world in Australia. It's a track that's riveted to the roof and crossbars that snap into it. I'm sure if you called Rhino-Rack they could give you some direction. It was a super strong mount.

Thanks for all the info guys, I spoke with a Rhino Rack rep and he explained the following:

The photos you sent are a custom install of our Hilux track with track legs and discontinued silver Pioneer Platform, now only available in black. In Australia the Tacoma is called the Hilux and we have a custom track for this car. We do not have a custom track for the USA Tacoma as they are slightly different. The Hilux track can be retrofitted to the USA Tacoma with some modification and some of our rack specialty stores have knowledge of how to do this. It depends where you are located in the US. Let me know your location and I can see if any store with this know-how is in your area.

We cannot tell by the photo if this is an Australian Hilux or US Tacoma. Again, Outback Proven was Aussie owned so it could be an original Hilux - difficult to tell from the photos.

The sizing of the tray depends how far apart the rain-gutters are the Hilux tracks are installed into. We'd need you to take this measurement to determine what Pioneer may fit.

We hope this helps your inquiry. Feel free to let me know your location and we can check if any rack specialty stores in your area are familiar with this very rare, highly custom install.

Thanks for your reply. Our engineering team is working on several new applications for the US Tacoma already including possibly a custom track, as we are aware of the factory mounting points in the roofline. However a timeline on release for any of the new systems is not available.

If you’d like to move forward with a custom install of the Hilux track I can provide you the part number of the tracks, and you would have to order them from us directly which I can do you for you.

Again, this is a custom & modified install recommended to only be done by an authorized Rhino-Rack specialty rack vendor. We do not warranty this fit as it’s a modification of an Australian fit to a US vehicle, and all installs for this are at the customer’s sole discretion.

However, Eezi Awn now has a K9 roof platform option for the Tacoma, so I will be going that route.

Paul May of Equipt shared some info with me about it which I've summarized below.

The Tacoma kit is FRESH off the presses and should be added to their website any day now (you can order by phone now). Kit includes the platform 1250x1400mm (50"x55"), (6) feet, a pair of 1400mm rails (contour matched to the roof channels of the tacoma & bolts to factory mounting points). Price is $1050 w/ free shipping.

I'm definitely going with this setup on my '15.
