Roof top tent cover straps

I have a CVT RTT which I love.
Its attached to my trailer and I can't help but notice at highway speeds when you look in the rear view, it looks like an inflated parachute back there!
Surely this has to be creating excess drag when driving.

Has anyone used another way of strapping the RTT cover down?

Maybe a cargo spider net like this:

Silly question...are you fully zipping the cover and putting on the cover straps? I have a Mt. Hood which has a fairly large size closed up sitting on top of my trailer. I don't notice any ballooning of the cover.

Yeah I'm doing all those things. The 2 straps that go over the cover seemed to be too long, so I added velcro further up the strap to keep it tighter, but it still balloons up.

Maybe I should add a couple more straps that go the length of the cover to aid the ones that go the width.

Mines the Mt Hood model BTW

Can you post a pic of your Mt Hood strapped down so I can compare?

Thanks for posting the pics. I'll try shortening the straps, if no dice then i'll contact Bobby --- thanks!

I just use some inexpensive cinch and ratchet straps. I use three going the length and two running across. Holds everything tight.

Careful when cinching down a ratchet strap on the cover. I do the same thing to prevent the ballooning and it wore a hole in the tent door netting from the cover rubbing against it from the inside. It happened because the tent still moves a bit mounted on the rack on rough roads but the strap is fixed to the rack rail and wrapped around the top. It's enough movement that it wore a hole. I hope that makes sense. The best solution would be to attach a new strap to the middle like the other straps.

On the backside where the straps attach to the frame (opposite the velcro), see if you can shorten the strap by unscrewing the mount, pulling the strap until its taught, then rescrewing in the mounts. Cut off the excess. Hopefully the velcro on the front still matches up.
