RotoPax 8 Gallon Gas Pack + OCF Reinforcement Kit?

Hey All,

2014 Unlimited Rubicon here.

So I was wondering if this combo would work. I know the debate as the weight limit of the rear tire carrier/tail gate.

I need extra gas on the trail and I was thinking of doing the following....

Getting two of these for 8 gallons total and buying the gas pack connector hardware so they are connected essentially as "one"

http://rotopax.com/4-Gallon-Gasoline.html

Then install this...

Then mount the connected gas packs with heavy duty ratchet straps to the rear spare tire.

I think fuel weighs around 6 lbs a gallon so the total weight added to the tail gate would be 48 lbs. Which some say is beyond the limit and some say it is not.

Any ideas? Thoughts?

Thanks!

Joe

What kind of spare do you have on there now? It's probably not a good idea, and from what I've read, is well over the weight limit. You could swap to the TF hinge and spare mount, which wouldn't have a problem holding the extra weight.

Hey there! I have the stock BFG 255/75/17s.

I'm kind of shocked about the weight limitations of the stock rear tail gate. According to Jeep the spare tire is stock spare for the ruby is already of the limit.

Yep. I am going through the same thing. Adding the vector off road rack to my gate, and have to put the teraflex hinge on. My gate is already creaking with the stock sport wheel and tire. I'm looking at getting the double mounts and running 4 3 gal cans. That's 12gallons extra.
