Rotopax (water) leaking. Am I doing something wrong?

Just received two new Rotopax water cans. Filled 'em up and - woah - both of them drip out of the spout assembly when on their sides.

I've never read a bad word about these things (except for people complaining about the price!) so I would be very surprised if I happened to get two defective ones.

Anyone had problems getting their's to seal? I've cranked down a little, medium, a lot, and even He-Man. Still dripping.

Any advice?

I don't own any Rotopax, but what I would say it take the cap all the way off and check that there is no damage to the threads or to the seal in the inside of the cap.

Just an idea, hope you get this sorted out

Does the spout have the black gasket installed on it? If so, does it look damaged? I don't need to crank mine down like He-Man to keep it from dripping.

Yes, the black gaskets are installed and look smooth and undamaged.

Since posting I've gotten one of them to stop leaking, but only by going He-Man on it. The other still dripped a bit overnight.

I'm going to call Rotopax today.

In the meantime, even though the gaskets don't appear to be dry, I think I'll put a bit of petroleum jelly on them to see if that helps things mate together a bit more.

sorry for the hijack but what do these come with for a spout? I'm in the market and curious

See here: http://www.rockymountainatvmc.com/p/738/27872/RotopaX-Replacement-Water-Pack-Self-Venting-Spout

If I was in the market and stumbled into the leaking water can thread, though, I might start looking elsewhere... :sombrero: But some really need this form factor as opposed to scepters or LCIs.

I'd recommend returning the can. If you have to he-man it eventually the threads will wear and you'll continue to have leaks. With molded plastic sometimes things just don't mate, especially with flexible threads.

The containers did only okay on a recent week long trip. Still have to play He-Man.

Plan on calling Rotopax on Monday.

The packs definitely leak if they're not totally he-manned. Even then, there are a few drips.

That being said, I've been playing phone tag with Rotopax. They've been leaving friendly, positive messages, so I am hopeful that they will make it right. Maybe they'll send me a caps, maybe they'll send new water packs.

Keep in mind that my story is one data point among many positive reports.

Sending replacement packs

Thought I'd let everyone know that Rotopax was very responsive on the phone. At their request I sent some photos of what was going on.

They're sending me two new water packs and a pre-paid label for shipping the others back.

So: positive experience with their customer service!

My new, 3-gallon gas can is seeping gas and fumes from the outlet. It's not the spout, which works fine. My 1.75 gal can doesn't leak, even on its side for long, rough motorcycling hours.

I sent RotopaX a note, with a photo. I had poor response from them once previously; will report how they respond this time. Their warranty appears to address only products purchased directly from them, but we'll see.
