RTT and Cargo Box on JKU with Gobi Rack

I have a CVT tent I mount to my Gobi rack for my JKU. I'm looking to add a small cargo box/bag in the area above the front seat. Are there any wide and short cargo boxes out there? The best I have found is the Thule Interstate http://www.thule.com/en-us/us/produ...ets/cargo-bags/thule-interstate-869-_-1683516 or Outbound http://www.thule.com/en-us/us/produ...skets/cargo-bags/thule-outbound-868-_-1683515 but those are soft (and I haven't measured yet to see). What are you using to take advantage of that extra space in the front that would protect gear from the elements?

Depending on your budget you can use aluminum or plastic storage crates. I use three Plano Sportsman's Trunks on my Gobi although I may upgrade to some aluminum ones in the future.

Any issues with wind noise with the trunks? Not that the brick that is my jeep is all that aerodynamic...

It hasn't been all that noticeable to me on the freeway, but I usually have the radio on around 16-20 (volume level on stock stereo). I think I've also gotten so used to the constant din of wind noise from the Gobi, snorkel, and fishing rod tube that am able tune it out. I'll have to ask my wife if she notices a difference.

If you do go the Plano route, be aware that they are weather-resistant, not waterproof. I haven't had any issues thus far, but I do make sure to put anything I am concerned about getting wet in a waterproof stuff bag inside them.

Perfect!!! Thanks. I am familiar with them. I have a keyboard case that has lasted for 20 years. How do you secure it? Ratchet straps? Do you have the front mesh rack insert on your Gobi? Nice rig and pic BTW!

I have the front insert. I just use some 20 inch cargo straps to secure them down through the handles and to the rack.
