RTT and winter camping

I've recently invested in a CVT Mt. Shasta and I'm wondering how warm it will be. I've been asking locals and all they seem to know about is camping with a nylon tent. I've done some searching and really haven't found any definitive answers. I will be camping with a 10 year old that's a tad on the princess side (work in progress) and I'm thinking about going Fri the 21st as a test run then I have a trip planned in the mountains of Virginia at the end of January.

Basically, how heavy of a bag will I need and do I need to invest in a heater?

Check the camping gear section. Lots of threads on staying warm in a RTT. Congrats on your Shasta. I have one as well.
