RTT on a sedan

Hi Folks,
I am planning to get a RTT for my Honda Accord 4-door Sedan for my cross country trip. I did some fair amount of research and can't really find information on RTT mounted on small cars/sedans. Is this a crazy/stupid idea?

Not crazy at all...
I have seen small vehicles with huge overloaded cargo baskets....

My thinking is that you would be limited in RTT's choices..
We got the Autohome Columbus for this very same reason...and easy of deployment / put away.
Although, not any time soon if we needed to I coud pull the RTT from my rig and put it on my wife's Saturn.
No,it is not a sedan but a much more smaller profile vehicle...
Hell, I think I could put my RTT on top of Co. Vehicle.. a KIA Soul.
Just keep in mind the weight limit of whatever load bars you with...

If you can put a Thule roof rack on it, you can pretty much put an RTT on. Usually a safe bet would be a small hardshell. vwopen-tentL.jpg

I would suggest a pair of Thule towers and load bars. You should be fine after that with just about any tent. If you are considering a Tepui, let me know. The Ayer is the most compact and would probably fit best on your Honda, but I can help you with other ones too.

I would limit myself to hardshell clamp style tents like the CVT, J Baroud or AutoHome... I know mine is at 95@

If you Google image search on roof top tent, you'll see a few small cars with RTTs. Check that out, and it might lead you to some interesting solutions.

Got Thule bars today. waiting for the fit kit to be shipped to me. Those were almost 300$ more than cheaper brand I was going to buy. The Hard top tents look so good but so damn expensive.
I did google small cars with RTT (multiple times). The thing is they are mostly mounted on Hatch backs/station wagons and not a typical 4-door sedan like mine (smaller roof area ?).

I would go with a folding tent. I would not want the overhang of a hard shell over the windscreen where it would catch air. I had an RTT on my VW sportwagen but it was a wagon and it mounted up directly to the factory rack without any issues. It did cost me about 10% on my mpg.

May want to check out Tepui's Ayer.

If it can fit on a Mini, it will fit anywhere.

The Ayer would be a great fit in this case. As long as it gives enough room for the one using it it will be a good fit on the vehicle. It will sleep two adults but won't have much room left. Let me know if I can help you with one if you decide to go this route.

How much does the Ayer weigh?
