RTT on the cab over the hood

I am wondering if there are any manufacturers out there that would make a tent that I could put on the cab that opens forward and the ladder would clear my hood? I was originally going to put a tent to open out the back but it sits so high. The top of the bed sits at 8'4" and after I beef up my springs a little it will be closer to 8'6". I was planning on putting a rack on the roof of the cab to carry my spare tire but after putting the bed on the truck I am rethinking my set up. Any thoughts?

Thanks,
Greg

Thats a pretty long hood... probably not one that will reach. You could simply mount it so it comes off the passenger side and it would work great. Kool truck setup BTW.

Thanks. I just started working on it. I thought about the tent out the side but the only problem is it would be too small for three people. I will probably end up putting it on the back of the utility bed.

No worries.

I have a CVT Mt Hood, and it will fit 3 people. It is a bit less than 6' wide. It fits on my CDN M101 and it is 4 x 6.

I've see RTT's mounted as you want - but the ladder attaches to the top of the bull bar, rather than the ground.

To get the extra reach, how about sitting the RTT on a coupler of drawer sliders.

Park-unlatch and slide out to the front and unfold

I'm currently working on the sliders idea. I have a Jeep with Gobi Rack and 2 Tepui Ayers. They are intended to flip over the rear, with ladder access, and over the front (hood) maybe without ladder. The sliders will allow access to the rack basket area under the tents for carrying other items, chairs, table, etc...

Kids go in the front tent, by passing through the doors between, and have to go by the parents to get out the back.

I think for the ford, I might consider a ladder that came down on pegs in a the front bumper, or a brush guard and step combo. While I don't intend to sleep in my "extended" drawer slides, I'm pretty sure I could with 500lb per pair ratings.

My biggest concern right now is dust trashing the slides...

I decided to just go ahead with my original plan of having it on the utility bed out the back. I need to be able to use the annex and just could not think of a good safe affordable way to take it over the hood.

good plan, the roof rails on those trucks really aren't that strong and would definitely distort and crack with that much leverage hanging over the front.
