SAS with just a little lift?

Has anyone seen a SAS done that gives very little lift? I'd love to have SAS but don't want to be way up in the air (2" lift max). I'd like to do it using stock 84-85 springs in the stock spring under setup.

TONS of info out there on this. Pirate4x4, Marlin, Yotatech are your search button friends.

check this thread for starters: http://www.pirate4x4.com/forum/showthread.php?t=674078

your running an IFS frame, like me, and it has a flatter front section than the SA frames which have an arched area over the front axle. This may cause you a problem when arranging your steering link off your box, some run flat arms to help. You should also consider a longer spring than the Toyota oem SA spring to give a better ride and flex.
post up some pics once you get going with that grinder :)

That's a good link but those guys are doing spring over and huge tires, I want to stay spring under with 31's as this is an expedition rig not a crawler.

yeah youre gonna be spring over no doubt Ive done a few sas the best axle is out of a 85 its got alittle more beef to it chevy rear springs and rear stock springs for the front (ruf) will give you the minimal amount

stock was soa with a negative arched spring, the bumpstop was only about 1.5" off the frame. you would really be pushing to stay at a 2" equivalent lift with a swap but it can be done. i wont ask why as i like solid axles and would like to swap mine, but i just dont see the benefit outweighing the cost and work when doing an overland style build.

I saw a 90-95 4runner with a very low SAC the other day. He had 33x10.50 tires and it looked great. I'm 99.9% sure he had the 22re, so maybe that engine would help with the conversion because the 3.0 v6/Solid axle was never a combo. I have seen a few examples on 86-95 trucks, so it's certainly do-able.

Kyle at DrivenTubeWerx is building a long travel SUA rig for KoH. Basically had to build a whole new frame to make it happen. There's a build thread on POR. Not the same direction, but could give you some decent ideas. The truck is low, stock height on 37s.

There is no reason you can't go spring under. Even at stock height you'll have way more travel than the stock setup, since you clear up the room taken up by the springs for compression. With a small tire you have plenty of room to stuff.

Get a set of custom sua springs and it should be easy to set it where you want.
