Saved another trail!

This past weekend was the third annual FOE/UC4x4 trail cleanup in the Eldorado National Forest. UC4x4 is an up and coming bay area off road club that takes land use first. I am an official member of the club and I can honestly say that I am proud of the work we do with our local rangers and clubs.

This year we saved a trail that was at the top of the list of being closed down, but with great efforts of lower ranked rangers and the leaders of FOE, the head guy saw what was waiting at the end of the trail.

This trail was so overgrown with prickly brush that even quads would get cut up going down to the lookout.

UC4x4 and some of FOE cleaned up roughly 2 miles of fire road trail to get to the lookout foot trail. Over 30 others cleaned up another 3-5 miles worth of trail nearby.

Fast forward several hours later and the end result was this:

We took a break for lunch and decided to head down the foot trail to see why we were really putting so much effort into this trail. It really was as beautiful as it gets.

After hanging out down at the granite slab and water fall for some time, we decided it was time to finish our job. We moved several dead trees in front of the foot trail to try and prevent dirt bikes from illegally riding half way down the trail (to where it gets too steep and rocky). There is a sign that says no motor vehicles beyond this point, but the entrance was too open and inviting for them; I think we fixed that.

And we're done!

Great work...I hope it last and looking forward to what you guys get up to in the future.

I can't really decide if I agree with whether this should have happened or not. Not trying to be a sandal-sporting, patchouli and BO-smelling... uh, troll or anything. But sometimes when nature tries taking back what we took from it over time, I kinda feel like it's a good thing. New trails are made ALL THE TIME, so I don't really mind when the ones that aren't traveled so often start looking untouched again. I feel there's a difference between saving a trail from trash and shenanigans, and saving a trail from leaves, logs, bushes and trees...

Simply my opinion, and I may be missing something. I hope I don't offend anyone.

Thats definitely a different view point on it. Its a designated trail and for some reason way back when there was something appealing to make it an official trail. So far this year, there have been over 1,000 miles of trails closed in the Eldorado National Forest. Those trails are more deserving to be locked up than this one was, as they offered far less to those who have or will travel the dirt path.

Maybe you just gotta get out of AZ for the weekend and see it to realize what nature has to offer us. :ylsmoke:

You mentioned saving a trail from trash; last year we cleaned up over 25 cubic yards of trash, numerous tires, and 2 stolen and stripped vehicles.
