I was having dinner and I saw one driving by, did not have much time to look at it but it seems bigger and better looking than I expected.

that "car" doesn't speak to me at all... i guess it just acts as a reminder of how far LR has gone... and not in a good way...

The styling of the Evoque is reported to be reflected in the the new Range Rover, too. No more simple blocky shape for the RR. The Evoque stands in contrast to the simple shape of the LR4, which is almost devoid of ornamentation. Maybe that's the corporate plan: The style of Range Rover models is more expressive, Land Rovers more utilitarian. We'll see when the new Defender concept is show this Fall.

From what I read in a French Magazine, they were quite impressed with it. I suspect it will be more popular than most people expect.

I was pretty "meh" on the Evoque. After seeing the Top Gear review of it I've changed my tune. I think it is decent enough for that type of AWD transportation.

Who really cares? Land Rover stopped making good overland vehicles when they killed the 300Tdi Defender... Bunch of city toys is what their products are now for the most part... Status symbols instead of proper tools for the job.

i agree but for north america, we have to deal with the best option we have... for most thats the disco others, RR... wouldn't have a rr though if i could grab a defender for the same money or even a little more...

and i for one am glad people are buying these for status symbols! because they get tired of them quickly and flood the market of cheap well maintained examples so people like me can scoop them up for cheap! :)

I agree. Land Rover is now Castrated Urban Rover.

I drove it in Wales on the 20th and 21st of July and it´s a very nice car...

Looks like a sleeker version of the new mini. It's not always thevehicle that counts, what I am more interested in is the ladies that are driving this vehicle. :)

You may see a few men in the Evoque too I guess.
It offers more space than the Range Rover.
After two days in the Evoque with enough room for my 6´6" I hit the head lining of the Range Rover Super-whatever even though the seat was in its lowest position.

Driving is great and it´s pretty nice offroad, too.

Sure, you wont need a winch on this car, but some underbody protection will be a nice addition....

We even submerged it all the way to the top of the headlights and drove at this water level vor some 100 meters....not bad for a city car....

How many people with 300tdi Defenders drive around Africa? Not too many I would guess.

Now that you issued the challenge, I'm sure someone will take it around africa

Don't get me wrong, I'm not saying I like it.

I remember all the grumblings when the LR3s first came out - it was panned as a soccer mom car with all the electronics and gizmos. Then someone actually drove it and was impressed.

How about all the grumblings post Defender - plenty of happy discovery and RRC owners out there.

How about all the grumblings when LR stopped leaf springs...
