Scamper camper

Hello all Im new here and new to campers I just purchased my first one. A 93 scamper pop up and I'm hoping I could ask a few questions about it, I picked it up with a friends F 250 with no problems and brought it home (no tie downs yet on the truck). Now the issue, my truck is too tall and to wide with the wide part being the real problem as the camper is 3 legged with the collapsible feet. I had to remove the feet on the front 2 jacks and block it up making it a pain in the butt to get on. Im sure someone has had to have the same problem and wondering if custom feet is a possibility. I have only owned it for a couple days and haven't really looked into it to hard yet. any info would be great.IMG_0717.jpgIMG_0718.jpg

Welcome to expo & congrats on the camper! On my old skamper I sandwiched some 4x6 cut-offs between the camper jack mount and jack. Worked great. Take a look at my thread. Link in my sig. Lots of info to what I did the the old Skamper!

Good luck! :coffeedrink:

Nice looking camper! My two cents.. Ditch the 3 jack set up and invest in four new corner jacks with widened mounting hardware. I too had an older Skamper that I got for a song. It had way too many problems to keep though. I had the same 3 jack set up. my Dodge would not fit between them without running over the tripod bases and I had to max them out height wise just to get my bed under it. Way sketchy. I remember it swaying back and forth in the wind as I am trying to back under it with rail road ties under the jack stands and saying to myself. "man I hope this POS doesn't fall over on my truck!" Anyhow good luck and happy camping. :sombrero:

Thanks for the info guys, great thread on the scamper SLO f250. I think I will try spacing the jacks out first with an aluminum bracket and adjust for height there. Did you have any problems with the extra leverage? i'm sure ill be going over that thread a few times. If it still seems sketchy I may have to invest in 4 corner jacks. I would have loved a short box one but these things seem to be super rare up here as it is. cheers

Thanks for the compliment. Give the spacer a try. It does add a torsion force on there but worked for me very well. Not a "good" solution, but it unloaded and loaded that camper for 2.5 years.

As you will find, there are lots on opinions about everything. Personally I am not a fan of the (4) corner jacks, but there are guys that swear by them. My main reasons are 1) invasive retrofit to the camper 2) more time on and off.

I have the CR Brophy Jacks now. They are the ones that FWC and ATC use as "easy on and off" jacks. I really like them. Way more stable than the tri-pod system believe it or not. Also rated for 3000lbs each so plenty of strength. Once you find your center of gravity it is easy. It does sway a bit, but its more built in tolerance. Its very easy on and off and no bolting up.

Anyways, good luck and post some picts when you dig into the project. :smiley_drive:

Ok so this is what i did for my jack problem just a piece of 4"x4" 3/16" aluminum with a gusset on it pushed the jacks out and down 4" kinda ghetto fabbed now for a couple more questions. I'm going to run chains to the bumper for now and I'm thinking of Brophy type that go over the box side but we do a lot of off road and just wondering if they would hold up, but I'm also thinking of using straps and going to the inside of the box not sure what to do. The other question is about removing the tailgate I don't really want to travel with it on but I'm sure the camper will need the support I'm in the middle of building a rear bumper for the truck and will add a removable cage to support and protect the rear of of the camper if needed. I cant wait to take this thing out. Any ideas?
