School me on Spearguns, Please

So I want to buy a inexpensive, possible, used speargun. I'll have opportunities to get out 2-3 times a month for next 4 months or so. After that I'll probaby sell the gun. I'm looking to keep it under $250.

I'll probably spend most of my time, working on breath hold, but there are plenty of opportunities for fish in shallow water (30ft bottom).

The target fish cover a broad range, from their numbers I don't think they see much fishing pressure. Jacks and snappers are most common, with monster grouper being fairly abundant as well. 100lb Jacks are common and 200lb+ Grouper have been spotted on multiple trips.

I spearfished a few times when I lived in FL, but was never big into it. Took a couple AJs in the 40-50lb range and a few snapper in the 20lb range. i used a friends AB Biller(?) it was 42" or so. I lucked out and never really made a terrible shot. None of the fish ever fought me.

I'll be gunning for table fair, snapper and grouper if I can find them in a tasty size.

What do you guys recomend? I'd borrow a rig, but only one guy here brought guns (2) and there are several folks that want to get out and hunt.

Thanks

Vince

Find something with 3 bands. My buddy has a JBL competition magnum with 3 bands, and I have a JBL sawed-off magnum, with only 2. We play around the jetties some and the near shore oil rigs (~5 miles out) where we encounter spadefish, barracuda, etc. You will notice a pretty big difference between a 2 and 3 band gun. Other than that, our guns are basically identical. The 3 band Competion magnum is easily in your price range, brand new. Check out LeisurePro.com.
