Hi everyone, this is my first post. So I thought I'd introduce myself.
I had an invite last year to join a close friend who is a professional photographer up in Scotland. Prior to the invitation I started watching various 'overlanding' based Youtube channels and really enjoyed them. Probably my favorite videos are from Alaska and Idaho, though what started it all out was Lucas T Jahn's channel and his video on Costa Rica.
Having been given inspiration, I headed south to Chichester to purchase a few DJI cameras and drone in order to be able to record the upcoming trip in Scotland.
It was my first experience ever doing such a thing and I absolutely loved it!
Sadly I don't have the right vehicle and got stuck a few times. Recently I saw the Toyota 4Runner Gen6 Trialhunter edition and have kind of fallen in love with it. Maybe something like that coupled with an MDC XT16 trailer or Imperial Outdoors X145 or Pause Reboot might work better?
These are the videos:
Please bare in mind that this is the first stuff I've ever done so hopefully with more time spent things will improve further.... I think having some else around with help a lot too so that's something I need to find additionally if I can - not easy!
For the future from the experience that I have acquired already I plan on getting a few more action cameras and on-vehicle mounts. If I can place them in cool areas like underneath, especially on something like the 4Runner, the suspension and wheel motion will be seen which looks so amazing!!
I'd probably also want to grab a Blackmagic either 4k or 6k (pro) Pocket G2 camera to use for wildlife and as main camera.
I used Shotcut on Linux to make the videos above but since then I have switched to Davinci Resolve Studio and also bought Telemetry Overlay which is really cool and can extract GPS data from the DJI Action cameras when paired with the remote.
For stills I have a Pentax K1 mkII with various lenses, probably the 15-30mm and Irix 150mm tele-macro are my favorites. I also have a Nikon D500 with Sigma 105mm tele-macro and 200-500mm among a few others and Godox MF12 macro flash kit.
These are some images from Chichester taken with the Pentax:
These are from Scotland taken with my cell phone sadly as my Pentax got destroyed on the first evening after leaving it out for the night to catch a potential "Aurora". It got blown over by a gust of wind and the lens ripped from the body rendering it unusable:
Right now I'm really keen in doing more as I had a blast but as I suffer from ASD and ADHD a few things really went wrong upon getting home which has now left me on heavy medication meaning I can't drive either which is really frustrating and unfortunate.
Hopefully things will change soon as I haven't given up and I am making a lot of plans of where to go, like a pan-European trip which will take me into the Uludag mountain range in Bursa province of Turkey, starting off through the French Alps, then into Italy, then the Dolomites, Eastern Europe before reaching the final destination of this particular trip (subject to change as it is in planning stages).
Also I hope that there will be someone to go with too so that my ADHD doesn't flare up so highly and I end up with complete "burn out" like after Scotland.
