When: Friday June 8th, 2007 7:00pm
Where: Seattle REI North Meeting Room, Seattle, WA
Why: To Help Build a School in Nepal through Room to Read (roomtoread.org)
How Much: A Suggested Tax-Deductible Donation of $20 per person (children are half price)

Specifics:
Come join us for an evening of exploration through one of the highest regions in the world! Backed by traditional Nelapi music and narrated by the trekkers themselves, the slideshow presentation will capture what life is like on the trail while highlighting the breathtaking scenery which characterizes this region and its people.
The presentation will be followed by a Question & Answer session with trek participants.

All proceeds from the presentation will go to Room to Read, specifically for a project to help build a school in Nepal. Room to Read partners with local communities in need of school or library facilities and creates a Challenge Grant, requiring the local community to raise part of the funds as well as supply land and labor for the school. Over 280 school and 3,600 libraries have been built with this model of local involvement, helping enhance the education of over 1.2 million children. On hand to answer questions will be a volunteer with Room to Read who has visited many library and school projects in Nepal.

If you won't be able to make it, but would still like to donate, click here!! Be sure to enter Carey Family School in the Special Instructions section.

And for those on the East Coast, we are looking at lining up a showing in Huntington Park, NJ in May which may be attended by one or more of the Sherpas who guided the trip, some of whom have summited Everest and other peaks multiple times. More info when it's finalized.

This show will be in two weeks and I'm getting quite excited as I finish some of the editing and final touches.

I'm sorry for the people on the East Coast as the hoped for showing in New Jersey couldn't be arranged properly. We hope to have the slideshow and a Room to Read 15 minute introduction available in DVD form soon. We are also considering posting the whole thing on the web if we can retain the quality we desire.

To recap, the Seattle show is Friday June 8th, 2007 at 7pm in the Seattle REI North Meeting Room. Photos will be on exhibit for sale and any donations are welcome. 4 or 5 of the trek members will be there and we'll most likely have a visiting Sherpa in attendance as well. While he wasn't on this particular trek, his other three brothers were and he's a wealth of information on the Khumbu region.

This is the final reminder for the slideshow tonight!!
We are also happy to annouce a late sponsor of our efforts and a company much inline with what we're attempting to acomplish. www.sherpaadventuregear.com

From their site: "You see, Sherpa Adventure Gear is not your ordinary outdoor company. Our products are designed, worn and endorsed by these heroes that make their living in the toughest conditions in the world. And a part of the proceeds from every sale go back to Nepal to help underprivileged Sherpa children succeed. This is the Sherpa heart in action—always helping each other climb up, and never losing sight of the destination and what's important.

Just like the indomitable Sherpa, you can depend on our clothing and gear to be there for you day after day—even in the harshest conditions.

Namaste,
Tashi Sherpa"
