Sell my D70 to get a new lens?

So I've had my D90 for about a year now, I bought it with the kit lens, and had a 10 year-old Tamrom 70-300mm lens I've been using for telephoto shots. Honestly, it's not that great of a lens, and I'm finding I need more zoom for some of what I do.

I don't have a lot of money right now, but was thinking of selling my old D70 w/two basic Sigma lenses (18-35mm and a mid-range zoom I can't remember now) and the 70-300mm to get the intro Nikon 55-300mm lens. I probably can't sell the package to cover the whole cost, but can probably pitch in some $$ on my own.

I've been shooting more action/adventure shots, with a focus on skateboarding/biking. My 18-105mm kit lens works for a lot of stuff, but really am finding I need more zoom to be able to stay in one spot and get boarders from a distance.

Also, I'd like to get back into nature photography (something I used to do a lot), and think this would be a good entry lens for that, a definite upgrade from my old Tamron.

So...would losing my backup DSLR and lenses be worth the upgraded lens?

I will sell you a Nikon 70-300 lens shipped to you for $135. Then you dont have to sell your gear. Its has the hood and both caps.

You can trade in on any other lenses I have but I thought I would offer you that first.

I have a 300mm f/4 in stock

I don't know anything about Nikon lenses other than their great reputation. However, I'm confused how a 55-300 would provide more zoom than your 70-300? Is it faster? Are wanting a better quality lens with faster aperture and sharper glass, better bokah (sp?), faster servo motors, etc...? If so, Leo's 300mm F4 prime might be the hot ticket for you.

Good questions everyone...

I'm not looking for more zoom, just better...

After using the kit lens that came w/my D90, I realized a few things:

The focus in much much faster on the Nikon lens than on any of the lenses I have (might be the 300mm distance, but the Tamron lens focuses really slow).

The optics on the Tamron are 'fuzzy' - hard to explain, but even after having the lens cleaned by a local photo shop, the pictures don't seem as clear as my new lens, nor do they seem as clear as some of the original pictures I took with it years ago. I've always kept a filter on the lens, but it just isn't up for what I want.

So, I'll think about Leo's offer and see if I can scrounge up some $$ and still keep the 70...thanks for the feedback guys!
