Selling a Canadian registered Ford in the US: Logistics

I'm a Canadian citizen driving a Canadian registered E350 in Mexico and my intention is to sell it in the United States on my way through. From what I've read on the CBP and DMV sites I need a letter from Ford indicating the vehicle conforms to US safety and emission standards and when crossing the Mex/US border I need to declare the vehicle for import through the CBP.
Once I have that letter and the documents from CBP I am legally entitled to sell the vehicle to an American citizen and that person can then take the documents to the local DMV and get it registered.

Does anyone see any issues with this? Are there any Canadians out there who have gone through this process?

Also if there's a better place to post this let me know.
Thanks
